What game(s) have you been enjoying recently?

finally got around and continued Still Wakes The Deep and its just great. Love the way they created a full irish cast with the best VO and translation of the same, including irish cursing monsters - amazing visuals and wonderful style.

I kinda enjoy the fact too, that it is like Alien Isolation but much more linear, with way more options to get away. There is always tension but its not overwhelming.

Hope Bloodlines 2 isnt the death of TCR, I want more games like this again from them. Or something completely different.

I certainly hope Bloodlines 2 won’t will be their death! I think it will be okay, I wonder what their deal with Paradox was like, because it was definitely a risky development hell kind of project to take on. Paradox said it was a $37 million dollar loss for them, but of course it’s been in development since 2010 for paradox and The Chinese Room got involved much later. Fingers crossed The Chinese Room isn’t ’t suffering too much from it all…

I have been meaning to play Still Wakes the Deep for some time now! I’ve played all of their other games the exception of Bloodlines 2 that is.

So I downloaded Left 4 Dead 2 again, since I’d been wittering about it in another thread and unsurprisingly it still absolutely holds up - pretty close to a perfect game for me, even with the handful of weaker campaigns and bullshit segments (Dark Carnival is my favourite campaign but that run at the end of Barns on Expert is pure evil).

The director ensures each run feels unique, and the banter between survivors never gets old. Difficulty settings and game modes feel drastically different, the special infected are great for piling on the pressure and mixing up playstyles, all weapon types and combinations feel viable - I really can’t say enough good things about it.

I also love the movie posters that each campaign has as a loading screen, especially the taglines.

I should add the disclaimer that I’m incredibly biased due to nostalgia but it’s fantastic and everyone should play if you haven’t already

My physical PS5 copy of System Shock 2 finally came and it was nice to replay it. Haven’t played 2 in like a decade and this version worked surprisingly well on a controller.

I for some reason have had Final Fantasy on the brain lately, so I decided to pick up the Pixel Remaster bundle and see how those games hold up. I have a lot of nostalgia for the SNES Final Fantasy games especially, and JRPGs in general were one of my favorite genres growing up, at least up through the PS1 era.

Anyway, I finished FF1 so far, which was a pretty light and breezy experience. Not a lot going on there, but it was fun enough.

Full disclosure, I did flip on all the like exp/speed multipliers about halfway through, as I felt my patience falling away from me already, haha. I’ll be curious to see how the more story-heavy titles feel on their own, or if cranking the exp/farming stuff up just makes for a better experience overall.

Think I’m jumping to FF4 next.

I bought the pixel remaster bundle as well and started playing FF VI some weeks ago.

To me, two of the biggest improvements are the updated attack animations and color palettes, and the random encounters disabling feature.

And I did supplex that train lol

I was playing smooth moves with a friend the last time he was at my place and we had a BLAST!!! I love smooth moves. Touched! might be my favorite still but smooth moves is up there.

So far my only real knock against these versions are the font treatment. I don’t know why they decided to go with like ultra-crisp modern fonts for literally everything in the game, but it feels super out of place.

There is a font setting, you can choose between two different fonts but tbh they both look bad.

Just gave it a look and you’re right - both look preeeeeetty bad. :|

if you have them on steam, there are loads of mods so you can change the fronts to any style you prefer

Slay the Spire! One of my buddies play it a lot and finds a lot of mods of things we both like. I’m trying to go through the game as the Watcher. I enjoyed playing the second and third characters the most.

I’ve been failing at Wirm, but still having a wonderful time with it! Bought it based on the absolutely adorable trailer that I saw on Bsky here - cute games aren’t normally my thing, but I found it so lovely that I couldn’t resist

The game is altogether more difficult than I expected (maybe I’m just bad at physics games?), but with well built stages and generous enough checkpoints that it’s never too frustrating. There’s also some lovely granular difficulty options - they don’t alter the levels or challenges, but they just make the physics a little easier to handle in a way that’s hard to define. I’m encouraging myself to use them where I need to stop myself getting stuck and enjoying the game all the more for it.

The art style is charming, especially the worm’s animations. I love their little face!

I finally played Saturn Bomberman after hearing about how it was the best Bomberman game ever for so long. I’m sure it’s well regarded because of the 10 player multiplayer mode, but I played through the single player, which is usually not a highlight of Bomberman games. I’ve played Bomberman 64, Bomberman Hero, Bomberman 93, Bomberman 94, and Super Bomberman R 1 & 2, with a little bit of Pocket Bomberman, Bomberman Max, and Bomberman Tournament Edition, and I’d say this is the best one I’ve played. It has everything good about my second favorite (94), and Saturn makes it even better.

the fact you say your second favourite is 94 makes this high praise, i’ve got to check it out

Ball X Pit. It’s a fun breaker type of game. So with the detailed characters, farming, and a lot of secrets to find. (Plus contracted time missions, so I really can play a level for 12 minutes) It’s really addicting.

I think I have a bias to those types of games. So I gotten hard into it.

And Look Outside. I haven’t done a normal mode playthrough; so I’m looking forward to trying that after I beaten the game once!

After that, I’m going to look into a new title. Mission: It’s complicated. Not sure what’s up with it, but I like the character designs!

I did it! After more than 20 years, I’ve finished The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. I guess what took me so long was that some of the mechanics like using the wind waker to progress the later dungeons was kinda annoying. Also, I didn’t feel a connection to a lot of the characters you see during the game. You land at Wind Fall Island for example and after you did some things there - you just leave. When I played Ocarina of Time as a teenager, I interacted with several characters and I can still remember them to this day. The cell-shading optic looks cool and you can see how this continues to other Zelda games. Maybe, I should give this game a second try because things get funny, after you finished it for the first time  . But yeah, for now, I like Zelda Twilight Princess more than The Wind Waker when it comes to Game Cube Zelda games.

Not sure how many people would question my existence on this place we call Earth if I said I unironically enjoyed playing YIIK (more specifically, the I.V update)
Anyways… - 3 -

Some other games I would include are Escape From Ever After (another Paper Mario inspired RPG)
As well as The Genesis Project, which is basically actually getting to play Sburb yourself :D

It’s been very interesting seeing this reappraisal of YIIK in recent years.
