What game(s) have you been enjoying recently?

As people on the discord may have noticed, I’ve recently gotten very deep into Rome: Total War. It’s a game that I had* as a kid but could never understand anything of and just kept rage quitting, even following the advisor’s guide got me nowhere (but I presume they’re pretty shit anyway).

After watching a playthrough series by Many A True Nerd I learned how it worked through osmosis and now I’m having a blast with it!

I’ve also done another playthrough of Hacknet, a faux hacking simulator game that has a great soundtrack and where knowing my linux commands only screwed me over twice. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

*I pirated it

I’ve been having fun with Persona 3 Reload. I wish I was replaying P3FES but this is the version I wanted to mess with since I last played FES and I do not have a FeMC playthrough in me atm.

After I finish P3R I plan to replay P4G. It’s been a looooooong time since I’ve interacted with Persona 4 in any capacity. I think I last played P4DAN???

For content I’ve been playing Diablo Hellfire. I’ve only played Diablo, never the expansion, so it’s been fun seeing the new stuff added.

Honestly what I’ve been playing the most is still short sessions of Counter-Strike 2 Arms Race in between work.

Not too sure about enjoying it, but it’s good for resetting my brain.

Been loving the Final Fantasy Tactics rerelease, currently grinding away in early chapter 3 to get all of Ramza’s abilities ready.

Also been very into the new Pokémon Legends game - idk if I would want the battle rank stuff to continue into the mainline franchise, but it’s a neat concept

I’m excited for Persona 4 Rewind cos I think it would benefit a lot from the script getting a proper rewrite to fix the problematic stuff and also I love Inaba so much, seeing a full modern take on it will be glorious.

I wonder if they’ll redo all the anime stuff since there’s a new cast of VAs.

I’m currently playing Cyberpunk 2077. Occasionally I just like to slowly play through a good AAA title. I don’t care that much about the open-worldy action-ness of the game, but I quite like the story and am very interested to see how it plays out.

I’ve been playing through the first Ace Attorney: Investigations game, which I had done years ago on the DS but I’ve fully forgotten it so everything is fresh.

I’ve also reinstalled Return of the Obra Dinn. I’ve fully beaten it before, but I also fully forget everything so it’s like a first playthrough. I forgot how tough it was to solve some of these mysteries.

A game I recently finished is Landlord Quest, a short point-and -click on itch and Steam by a cool developer. I really enjoyed it and I hope more folks check it out.

I had a great time playing through Final Fantasy Tactics on the PS1 for the first time recently. I don’t know why it took so long, as I really love the rest of Yasumi Matsuno’s body of work, and I had finished almost every other English-released PS1 RPG of note over the years. But it still very much holds up despite some very wonky balance issues, and I had a blast.

It also wound up being quite timely. I had added it to my backlog list for 2025 last year and wasn’t really planning for my playthrough to line up so nicely with the release of the remaster. But it was kind of cute to feel like there were a lot of other people diving into the game for the first time as well, albeit through a slick new version.

Laplace No Ma for Super Famicom

It’s a Call of Cthulhu Inspired RPG with some Wizardry DNA that’s actually a port of an infamously difficult PC-88 title

It’s honestly super fun if a bit hard to get your head around at first!

I am intrigued. Is it available in English, either officially or fan-translated?

The Super Famicom version specifically is the only one with a fan translation as sadly the PC-88 and PC-98 versions remain Japan only

I was keen to play that one! But it’s oppressively expensive to buy. :frowning: Maybe when I eventually get an SNES flash cart! Looks super-moody.

Its got a real dark brooding tone but its not afraid to ease up for some funny skeleton gags!
It has a very interesting plot premise too and a nice difficulty curve once you have its system down!

I started playing Dragon Warrior (Quest) III for the NES last night, it’s neat! I’ve never played a “traditional” JRPG for more than a few hours, so I wanted to start with an older one to understand what they were like. I liked how much freedom it gives you right off the bat, you can go anywhere or make any kind of party you want! I also like how you don’t really know how things will play out a lot of the time because there were fewer established conventions. Also the enemy sprites are fantastic :D

I’ve been playing a lot of Warframe lately with my partner Kit, catching up on 1999 and farming some of the frames we planned to get. Other than that, I’ve got a playthrough of Alundra on the go, and we keep Genshin and ZZZ ticking along.

Just finished up Doom on the Jaguar and decided to finally start the recent Alone in the Dark remake. It’s not really bad so far but I was hoping it would be better.

I’m always playing some N64 game for the show, but lately my “for fun” game has been Silksong. Having a good time with it so far!

Rogue Trader is just a joy and I’m really looking forward to seeing all of it, since I’ve heard it got expanded quite a bit after release. I have all of the expansions that exist for it as far as I can tell.

I can’t wait to see what dumb roleplay opportunities arise for my silly character (lady ecclesiarch w/ chain sword) that I am going to make mostly in-setting normal (religious fanatic that hates everyone) decisions until the game presents the funniest most consequential opportunity for me the compromise on that position (probably “save a character I like”)

I think after that I want to check out what happens if you fall to Chaos.

I’ve had trouble settling on a game to focus on, but one point of consistency lately has been playing Tokyo Xtreme Racer before bed. The city night driving vibes are excellent, and I enjoy oscillating between the relaxation of aimless cruising around the highway and the tension of the 1-on-1 fighting game-style races.

It looks so cool! I hope to play it some time..
