Yeah. I haven’t played the second but I gather that, just like with Assassin’s Creed 2, it irons out a lot of the kinks of the original.
I love Super Mario Bros Wonder so much, I hope we get a sequel at some point but I imagine their priority is whatever the next 3D Mario is gonna be.
never played PSO, is it something you can play solo to completion or does it have to be online to see all of what the game has to offer? been planning on softmodding my Wii U for a long time and a big motivation is to play Gamecube games over HDMI.
Something made me go back to Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II for the Gamecube. I played HOURS of this when it came out despite not having the online adapter or ability to go online. I don’t remember hardly anything of it, but the vibes are immaculate early 00’s. Anyone wanna figure out how to get online with Dolphin and join a server with me?
Same - I played hundreds of hours of PSO Episodes I&II on the GC, all practically solo. My friends and I each had separate copies and would basically just play solo and “pretend” we were in the same world, haha. Have a lot of nostalgia for this one.
I finally bought Silksong. I think I like it, but it also kinda… upsets me, sometimes. I never feel like I have a clean path to follow, something’s always kicking my ass. Then I inch further slightly and something new is kicking my ass. I haven’t beaten act 1 yet, but so far that’s been the trend.
I’ve been replaying Pokemon Yellow (gen 1) recently, and have explored a handful of hacks/homebrews for various games as part of Retro Achievements “Peak Streak” event (“master” a new game - complete its achievements - every day as long as you can). It’s been a fun way to explore various community works on retro platforms.
I’m only around 15ish hours in (a little ways into Act 2), and I found it pretty hard to approach initially, even as a Hollow Knight fan. Hollow Knight was “hard”, but in my memory its ramp was a little smoother out the gate. Silksong by comparison feels like it throws kind of a LOT of stuff at you very quickly and chaotically - not just difficult bosses, but new traversal mechanics back to back to back (at least it felt that way, haha). It feels a lot smoother where I’m at now, but I don’t know that it ever feels entirely comfortable to me, haha. Always waiting for the next rug-pull.
Did they ever patch anything to be easier? I was looking forward to it but as someone who loved but only barely got through the first game I held off on Silksong because of the difficulty complaints
Not that I’m aware of - the devs seemed pretty uninterested in going that route when asked about it previously. For better or worse, Silksong is what it is, it seems.
I mean, that’s a perfectly valid way to design a video game, but like, I’m definitely enjoying the game IN SPITE of it and not BECAUSE of it.
Yeah, for sure. It definitely hasn’t resonated with me in the way Hollow Knight did, so far.
I have an account on Schthack! I played a decent bit last year (even got it working on my modded Wii) but still haven’t played through Episode II yet. I really like PSO’s simplicity - it’s kind of just Diablo but Diablo’s structure of “town on top of a dungeon” has always appealed to me and I love PSO’s vibes way more.
Hey there you should check out PSO Blue Burst to play that online on PC. It has lots of custom servers that are fairly active. You can play through episodes I and II and they also added a few custom stages too for fun. I play through it with my friends online every other year it seems. We play on the Ephinea server. I don’t think I can post a link to it but googling “PSO Ephinea” will bring you to it
Replaying Metroid 2, it’s always been one of my favorite gameboy titles. I feel a lot of people are too harsh on it. I think that the map design is good. It’s succinct and streamlined and you feel so strong, but I will admit that one of its greatest weaknesses is the screen crunch. It is indeed quite squashed especially on original hardware or on the 3ds virtual console. But I am playing on the switch, where the game seems to be stretched a bit, but things seem less cramped.
been continuing my 2nd run of LOOK OUTSIDE, its just so good. Its amazing how art and music and writing come together in this wonderfully strange game. I could’ve done with a tiny bit less obscurity and a notebook (and apparently theres still no way to check status effect icons? or maybe I missed it since the controller interface is a bit on the weird side as well) but it still caries such a great atmosphere and genuinely interesting characters, world, story.
So often with smaller titles like this one element does a lot of heavy lifting, like extraordinary art styles or music, but Look Outside just has it all (except a notebook
)
I’ve actually finished* Wanderstop now, took me a few months to chip away at it but I really enjoyed the idea of it and the story was a genuinely great piece of art. It did start dragging near the end for me, but those things can happen.
So for my future it’ll be continuing my weekly stuff in FF14 (new patches eat up tiiiiiime) and then go to one of the games I half started, hopefully it’s gonna be Rogue Trader.
* I gave up at the last drink and watched the ending on youtube, I just heard the steps and went “fuck this bullshit, I’m not fucking doing any of this garbage”
I’ve been playing Assault Android Cactus again, I forgot just how good of a game it is. It’s designed so well. Every little thing in the chaos directs the player and they somehow made every character feel unique to play with while also being balanced/enjoyable.
I’ve been playing Princess Crown and it’s SOOO good! It feels a lot like other Vanillaware games, it even has bonus from eating when full!
started the year with astro bot and it’s utterly delightful, first playstation game i’ve played that feels like it has that nintendo magic
saru! get you! 2 and gigantic drive
In the past week I’ve put about 35 hours into Cyberpunk 2077. There’s still little bugs here and there and nothing about it sticks out at me as particularly great, but what can I say, I’m a sucker for these immersive mega-budget open world games, especially when I get them at a steep, steep discount years after they release. Just love walking down a busy street in a video game, or driving around obeying traffic laws.
