I am primarily playing the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster right now. It’s my third serious attempt at finishing the game, and hopefully it will be the first attempt that doesn’t end with Wiegraf killing my file.
I really enjoy the early game grind of unlocking all the jobs and trying new abilities.
It’s not perfect, but it never was! It’s a long-overdue progression of what they started 25+ years ago. I rented one of them for Dreamcast way back when and I thought it was so cool that you just ride around, find an opponent, flash your high beams and the race starts then and there. This new one retains the spirit, and despite the clunkiness, it still feels like there’s no other racing game like it.
Ahh, I’m so looking forward to getting back into Rogue Trader soon. A proper 40K RPG has been a dream for me for years, and was so stoked when it came out. It was such a mess on release though that I stopped playing it a few months in and just waited for it to be polished and bugfixed as much as possible. Missed playing it and my Lord Captain and the crew ever since.
I played the demo for Checkmage when I saw it pop up in the recent nextfest. It’s a nifty chess-based deckbuilder that follows the template of the Pokemon TCG RPGs on GBC. Looking forward to buying it day one. Also it has very cute animal-people character art.
The perspective of a rogue trader is so good for a CRPG exploration of this setting. Most characters in setting will never see 99,9% of the stuff we as fans know. A rogue trader actually might have reason to encounter and interact with a Drukhari or an Ork Freeboota, as opposed to the Astartes experience of only ever seeing your chapter and shooting at basic Tyranid, Ork and Necron cannon fodder and MAYBE a cool Chaos champion or daemon.
I’ve been loving Little Rocket Lab. Very cute story and engaging Factorio-lite mechanics. Has that “I should do one more round before I stop” game loop.
Wiegraf was mean! I absolutely loved the game, but it has some really weird and uneven difficulty in its second half, and I think he was the worst of the bunch. Especially because it’s so easy to get softlocked there if you’re unprepared for the battle.
I picked it up recently on GOG for $5, and ended up having a surprising amount of fun with it. It’s kinda funny, it was knocked in reviews at the time for being too similar to games like Grand Theft Auto and Assassin’s Creed, but I haven’t really played either of those games so it feels pretty fresh to me.
I’m sure that a lot of people here have also been playing Silksong. I beat the game with 97% completion, and now I’m working on writing a review. It’s gonna be a long one. I can’t possibly capture everything.
I recently beat the first Drakengard and started NieR. So far I’ve been enjoying Metal Gear Solid 4, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and 4 and have been running matches with friends in DNF Duel and Street Fighter 6.
That definitely looked like a cute lil game that didn’t go too deep into the factorio/satisfactory optimization pipeline. It’s been on my wishlist for a bit now.
Recently I was going through many of my childhood MMORPGs (Metin2, Rappelz, Runes of Magic to name a few) as my dormant MMORPG brain decided it’s time to awaken. Since then Blue Protocol: Star Resonance released and since it’s free and looked like something I’d enjoy I’ve spent some time in there.
Other than that I am dealing with my struggling but still existing 13yo love of osu!, once in a while still booting Balatro (I still think it got robbed of GOTY last year), sometimes I also give some time to Limbus Company, and Vintage Story when me and my Gf have some extra time for each other.
Darkenstein 3D came out a couple of days ago, and I’ve been having a blast with it.
I also just picked up Isopod, but I haven’t actually played it yet… maybe tonight.
If I expand “lately” a bit, I finished Silksong and got credits to roll in Hades 2 over the weekend. Quite enjoyed both!
Back to OP though: Rome: Total War is great. I haven’t played it in over 15 years but I was absolutely obsessed with it back in the day. I should revisit it!
