I am going to play this soon. I saw the reviews said things to the tune of “It’s got heart but has significant issues.” VTMB 1 is super broken but I still love it to death, so very willing to give this a try (granted it will be different).
As a Vampire the Masquerade TTRPG fan and Bloodlines 1 enjoyer, I had been waiting for this game a long time!
I’m having a great time playing the game! I really like the characters, the story and running/jumping extremely fast on roofs. I am struggling with combat but that doesn’t really bother me, I like the challenge.
I just wish the save system was better (manual saves would be great) because sometimes it makes things feel a bit wonky. I’ve seen some people reporting being softlocked pretty far in the game because of the save system.
Which clan are you all playing? I decided to go with Brujah for my first run, I think I’ll go with Lasombra next.
Yeah I just started and saving is my only real complaint. I just want the ability to know my game has been saved before I stop playing (in case I missed the autosave pop up).
It’s my first time playing Ventrue in any VTM context. It seemed like a good fit for Phyre based on how the story was going, and the dialogue/powers have really been cool.
Honestly hearing about how the immersive sim elements got downplayed killed any interest I had in trying this one. Maybe one day in the far future on sale, but not today. What I loved about the original game, despite what a broken mess it was, is that there was so much freedom in terms of expression and problem solving, and the game would actually react to your choices and performance in rewarding ways. If I wanted a streamlined action RPG, I’d just get around to playing through Vampyr already.
I’ve put a few hours into the game and am enjoying it. It seems clear to me that The Chinese Room emphasized the narrative elements (which make sense given their past body of work), but I don’t think the streets of Seattle are as bare as reviews made them out to be. There is not a lot of emergent situations/quests you’ll just stumble into (at least, not that I’ve found), but the world’s size seems to fit the game’s scale. I’m thoroughly interested in the story so far and like the dual-protagonist dynamic. I will concede that the combat is not my favorite, but I haven’t really been able to articulate why yet. It can feel like a good change of pace and chance to test your vampiric powers, but I often find myself glad it’s over and more excited about the next story conversation I’m going to have.
been playing it for a few hours since they finally patched the FOV and its okay I think. It wants to be too much, the open world barely makes any sense as there is nothing to do in it and the removal of imsim stuff makes it rather pointless.
Story and characters are pretty nice though, love these murder mysteries the 1st one had quite a bit of too. The game generally provides the Bloodlines vibe from the first game, music being a bit more of hit+miss or sometimes it feels its missing because of technical issues?
I think I’d liked it more if the Fabian-exclusive scenes were not as separated from the rest of the game, but still enjoy him as a character. Reminds me a lot of how Miller was done in The Expanse TV series, including the hat.
The most annoying thing about it is the walking through the lifeless map full of cops breaking maskerade when you vault a fence. Its slow and just gets boring and the map is really not well designed to take advantage of rooftop parkour - which is actually pretty fun when it works for 3 buildings.
I’m looking forward to reading the 300 page book about the development from beginning to end, because I’m sure there’s some wild tales of mismanagement
yup no doubt. Probably the best TCR could get out of it under Paradox.
/finished it now and the above hasnt changed. Really liked the many of the characters and most of the story but as an action video game its just not really good. I would even go as far and say this could be particular disappointing given that voice acting and many of the dialogue is way above average. The little item interactions and their characterization, like Campells notebook or Safias tape recorder f.e. were just wonderful.
