Spider Thread

Spider season just ended here in the UK and I miss the little fuckers so share your friends/encounters here

For context I’m very much afraid of spiders, but also find them absolutely fascinating and can’t help but get as close as I can to take a look, they’re so weird and cool!

Like check out this massive dickhead I could hear their little footsteps as they were scurrying around the room it’s fascinating also get it away from me please

I spotted this guy a while ago! Thiccest spider I’ve ever seen! Pretty big, cats dug it.

Oh I love it! Jumping spiders are adorable, the little blue spots on the pedipalps are beautiful :)

I never stopped to take pictures of the lil sprodermens, but I know there’s one hiding under desk that occasionally bumbles out. Real tom and jerry moments, I swear I’m going to get to catch him and send him out eventually (-_-) if not now, then when I refinish my desk.

I’ve got mosquitoes bugging me here in November somehow so I wish the spiders would help take care of that

I put a spider in one of my unfinished game projects:

Looks fantastic! How was that to animate? Figuring out how spider limbs should move sounds challenging

I think I animated them 2 by 2 alternatively!

Put my players against a spider the size of an elephant yesterday on pathfinder 2e

They found it very tense, i found it very fun

I was reminded earlier today of the absolutely horrifying wiki page for the giant house spider which contains possibly the single worst picture ever taken so now I’m inflicting it on everyone else:

Worlds largest spider web built by common house spiders, I think the very same species at the start of the thread!

Bunch of regular joes getting together and making history.

single worst picture ever taken

goddamn that is horrific! thank you for sharing!

Took this (and a bunch of other shots) a few days ago. Little dude was super playful, kept trying to attack my tiny light.

This is Kiko - Kiko lived in my kitchen a few months ago. Our time together was brief as they sadly passed away of natural causes after a few short weeks together, but they used to really enjoy descending on a strand of silk directly into my eyeline as I was cooking just to scare the absolute shit out of me.

Happy hunting in spider heaven my spiky little friend

Got another one for you from a few years back. Thought I was grabbing a photo of two ants locked in a bit of a scuffle, only realised later (when I was flipping through shots on my PC) that I’d ACTUALLY grabbed a shot of a spider dragging an ant away from the rest of its colony.

Perspective makes it tough to see, but the ant is also significantly bigger than the spider.

Absolutely incredible shot!

Thanks so much! Getting in-focus photos of bugs is a pain in the ass, but when the bug-stars align it feels SO GOOD.

Haven’t seen a good chunky spider in ages so here’s one from a semi-abandoned project I was working on last year

Screen recording from an unreleased pixel art game. A character with a ponytail and shorts stands and watches as a spider descends on a thread of silk before climbing back up it. The scene is rendered with a green 2-bit palette reminiscent of the Game Boy

Really missing my little spider friends over winter life’s no fun without the occasional jump scare to keep me on my toes

Here’s a spider I drew to tide us over until they return in the spring
