you remind me… there’s an RPG party for zines on LIKELIKE this Saturday MORNING (that I’m exhibiting at). ZINE YO! FEST: Virtual Party Tickets, Multiple Dates | Eventbrite
Year 2 of Retro Game Zine has launched with the new format.
Retro Game Zine Quarterly!
Instead of covering a single game each month, it’s 3 games in each quarterly issue. This saves money and helps the logistics. It’s cheaper than buying three issues, too.
I have some cool collaborators in this issue, as well. I am funding it on Kickstarter now.

Need some human brainpower, want to sanity check that I’m not wildly off base with how I’m approaching this project.
And while I am an adult, I don’t really feel like I have much lived experience. Being disabled is partially responsible, but still.
Latest sculpt (that is another rework of older one but with fancy render)
Will try to print once it will be a bit warmer
Hello, everyone, I made a simple multiplayer game based on a certain infamous (?) anime, and since I have no-one to play this game in particular with I thought it might be nice to share it with people who maybe do: Keijo!!!!!!!!: The Game by opiter09
The new Pixels and Polygons Quarterly has just one day left on Kickstarter. Get the new issue with 100 pages covering three great games with awesome contributors and extra content, plus stickers and digital options, as well. Check it out and share with a friend!

ahhhh i love tako
Our friends at We Create Together interviewed me about some art I did. I wound up talking a lot about AI and fighting fascism and why everyone should read John Berger. Oh, and why we should talk like goblins: https://youtu.be/XRp1MeJaRoQ?si=DaDHgljs59u3rhSY
I wrote about my top 5 games of 2025 and 5 other games from 2025 that are currently living in my wishlist that I really need to get to ![]()
Yesterday I made a low-effort manifesto called “how 2 not fucking die”.
It’s raw and very short, if you’re depressed like me I’d be happy if you gave it a read. Thanks ![]()
Hey folks! I have a new poem and artwork about the Minneapolis stuff up on my blog now, check it out if you want!
Nailed it tbh
My main literary project is writing literary criticism of video games, which I do on my YouTube channel, linked below. I warn you that anything before 2024 is not quite worth watching…

I am also presently writing my next novel, though it is only a little over halfway done.
I’d like to share my one bit of writing that I did on backloggd that I’m especially proud of, on adventure for the atari vcs: homefires's review of Adventure | Backloggd
it’s not nearly as exciting or high effort as some of the cool things people are sharing in this thread, but I’m always eager to spread the good word about 2nd console generation games being actually good.
I read through this today during my lunch break
“when a game like god of war 2018 fetishizes the idea of the long take, presenting the game as an “unbroken” sequence, it appeals to the notion that resemblance to art is what makes art.”
I have had a really difficult time trying to verbalize this exact feeling, and this writeup really helped me organize my thoughts around this. I don’t have any inherent issues with a game using a “photorealistic” style or using cinematic techniques, or generally looking “like a movie,” but I feel like I can always tell why they look that way, and that matters more than the visuals themselves. Nowadays I get so caught up in critiquing the fact that LLMs can’t intend to do anything that I forget that we can make decisions with dubious intentions.
It’s why I don’t like to describe art in terms of other art. It can be so convenient to say “this game is very much like Balatro meets Mancala” - and that could be an accurate statement - but it says nothing about artistry or creativity.
Writeups like this remind me to be mindful about inspiration. So many things can be inspiring (like in your example, Welles’s technique) and it can be valuable to emulate and learn how to do them, but I want to avoid answering the question of “why did you make this decision” with “I want it to be like this other piece of art.”
I want an answer about how I want it to affect the person experiencing it, how it functions in relation to the work. If you follow the trail of art back far enough, someone had to have a thought that wasn’t “I want it to be like this other art” but instead to find a way to express or represent something from their world. I’m totally fine with being highly influenced by a lot of art I’ve consumed, and I think it’s a net positive for me at the end of the day, but if I always think in terms of “resemblance to art” then I feel like I’ll be shaving off the parts that made my inspiration resonate so much.
(Wasn’t expecting to type this much but this was a really thought provoking review; thanks for sharing

I’ve been working on making a game in QBasic and i came up with a way to represent 1575 colors through subpixel dithering at very low resolution (160x100) and i converted a bunch of wallpapers for testing and made pretty pictures which can be found here Eniko Fox: "i'm making a #QBasic game using mode 13h, 320x200…" - Gamedev Mastodon
That’s awesome!
