Feedback and Suggestion Thread

Everything has been running smoothly so far tech-wise. My to-do list for what’s left before I open it up to the public (some time this week?) is just a handful of items now. So that’s enough of my own brain power used, it’s time for crowdsourcing!

What do you think? What could be improved about the experience, the UI, community rules, features you’d like to see and cetera and cetera. I can’t guarantee that I’m capable of making every change I agree with, but I did have to learn several new skills just to get this place setup, and it all happened far quicker than I expected, so never say never.

One thing I haven’t been able to figure out yet but is high on the priority list is showing pronouns next to your profile pic

As a vBulletin 3 admin that thought way too much about shaping Forum Culture (I was a teen, I was ALLOWED to have those feelings), custom titles should be a thing done by

either

community acclamation (the admins manually set someone’s custom title to something that reflects their long-held status in the community.

or

a very high trust level that would take possibly years of sustained posting to achieve.

e: the custom titles should conform with the really sick _underscore theme though.

I was once in a forum for animators from a specific school, AND….. We had gif avatars/user icons. Just saying this would be awesome.

I made a gif user icon specifically for that website. That fitted the colors perfectly. And it was so cool and personal to have an animated user icon.

Since we are not in 1998 anymore. Gifs are fine. Even loading 30 gifs to show a forum thread is fine. Whatever! If I turn on the screen of my phone I’m prolly downloading 20 mb of nothing. So what’s 4 mb of gifs gonna do?

Could be cool.

Oh gosh, I had a series of different gif avatars on the legendary frog forums and Sheezyart.

I think avatars are managed by gravatar, so that might be out of Bob’s control

Gravatars are optional, you can upload custom though I need to install a plugin to enable gifs. I’ll put taking a look on the to do list (which is getting longer by the minute)

Can we like low key unleash the likes! I’m out and it’s a really wierd place to limit people. Limit people’s enthusiasm is not good. :expressionless_face::expressionless_face::heart_eyes:

hmm alright. It doesnt work. And it makes sense to be honest. When you upload an image for the avatar the “system” probably crunches it so it conforms to the standards.
I see it animate in preferences when i’ve uploaded it, but once the site refreshes everything is just back to plain ol’ static. :sad_but_relieved_face:

nevermind. thanks for trying at least…

The way the plugin works it only animates on posts and on your profile. Everywhere else it uses a static picture. I see it animating right now!

i was wondering, maybe the rules should clarify the forum stance on NSFW content. I would understand if they are not allowed, but it should be clarified, especially if more artists joins in the future

EDIT: okay my bad totally missed the part on nsfw content

Absolutely. One of the things at the top of my list is a complete rewrite of the rules for clarification and to make future revision easier, so any feedback there is welcome. I’ve also definitively decided not to go with any external ad platform so things should be more flexible in that department anyway.

ETA for that rewrite is after I’ve finished the next video and some well-deserved rest, so a couple of week at the earliest.

Would polls be a good idea for the forum? Might be fun for a few topics here and there

OH MAN NO WAY

I like forum signatures as much as the next guy but I think they should be visually impossible to mistake for the content of the posts, so here I would at the very least right-align them and change their text size from the default. Or force italics. Or put them in a box. Anything.

I just don’t think you should ever have to think about whether this line is a signature or the last line of my post.

Very good point. I’ll look into it.

Italics + different color + moved them to the right just a bit should probably cover it.

I think the biggest thing (pun not intended) for visual hierarchy in this case is actually the text size… What do you think of also reducing text size a couple of points?
