not really video games you hate, more like video games that you used to enjoy when younger but now could not recommend to anyone.
Literally any of the Harry Potter games.
Perfect answer!
I am a bit ashamed of the Leisure Suit Larry, the humor has aged like milk. ![]()
Although it was never my favorite of the series, I at least kinda liked Empire: Total War as a kid, and uh, well, it’s a conquer-stuff game set in the 1700s and not only can you play as the colonizers/enslavers, you can only play as them (and randomly one, but not both, of the native factions of India) without mods.
Flash porn games. They were so terrible, oh dear.
Pharoah. It was- weird. But not only was the UI relatively weird with how persistently it kept piling on notifs, but at some point, I achieved really good patience.
So now I feel weird playing a really annoying game til I came across an old review of the games.
i still like this one, but:
do i even need to say anything? do i have to bring up the creator? the countless broken promises over the years? the Amico game? the attempt at a new show that may or may not have just been a front for NFTs? it’s hard having “weird” tastes in games, it really is. i’m tired.
Leisure Suit Larry for me also. I was far too young to play those games but also aged out of them as soon as I turned 14 lol.
And in a sadder way The Never good, which was hugely influential on me but that’s another one where the creator turned out to be a dickbag so all those memories are staying locked in the vault.
Wouldn’t say I’m particularly ashamed of anything I’ve ever enjoyed, but there are definitely a lot of games that I’m not as fond of anymore as I used to be. For example, I still quite like a lot of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time but watching my girlfriend play it for the first time recently made me realize that a lot of its design no longer interests me very much. I do still quite like it atmospherically.
growing up the only version of street fighter 2 i had at home was the dos port and it’s so bad, instead of frames per seconds it was seconds per frame.
I used to play Xenophobe on NES a lot but it’s objectively the worst port.
I played a lot of Speedy Eggbert as a kid. It was my favorite 2D platformer despite owning a Super Nintendo and Super Mario World.
…Why?
The guy also used to vanity search his name on twitter and jump into your mentions if you bad mouthed him even if you didn’t @ him.
Dung Ten Apples used to be a personal hero of mine. I loved Neverhood and Skullmonkeys as a kid, and even ordered the special 2 disc soundtrack. Then when he started making webcomics his personal politics bled in and I realized “Oh, this dude is a MASSIVE tool”.
Golly gee, i remember learning about how this guy (Doulgas Ten Naples) was when he did Ratfist.
IIRC he blamed me in part for having to take out the comment section. Dude has a persecution complex the size of Utah.
I can’t think of a game I am ashamed of, but I can think of 3/4ths of one.
I really liked Heavy Rain when I first started it. I thought it was a cool idea for a game overall and I liked it’s gritty tone. I’ve also always been a sucker for a detective story.
When “the twist” happens and the killers identity is revealed…well that is when I stopped having fun. When the credits rolled, I put the game into it’s case, went to Gamestop, and turned it in for the $15 or whatever it was worth. I never wanted to see it again.
Looking back now, as a much older person, the signs of it being a bad game were much more apparent in it’s beginning. But I think I was blinded by the novelty of it at the time.
Oof yeah.
I got caught up by Heavy Rain too, despite barely enjoying Indigo Prophecy a couple years before.
And then i learned more about David Cage. I couldn’t even quote him because he uses slurs often in French.
You think that’s bad, though… i even played through Heavy Rain Chronicles Episode 1.
There never was any further episodes.
As for games i’m ashamed of, as a little kid i latched on the game “Tecmo’s Secret of the Stars” pretty hard since it was one of the few RPGs at my local video store. i couldn’t read Englihs back then so it seems so… unique and interesting.
And then years later i found out it was a really badly translated, overly simplistic mess of an RPG. I’ve never played it but i certainly don’t think i will spend much time with it.
I once had access to a modded OG Xbox that had the first DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball with a nude mod installed.
I’m mostly not ashamed of playing porn games (even porny flash games) but DOAEVB is leering even before you remove the swimsuits.
DOA Beach Volleyball always bummed me out because it was leering boobie game first and Volleyball second.
A volleyball game staring fighting game characters sounds fun, and it gives the devs and excuse to add in crazy hi-jinks. But I would want a game I could play in front of my friends without going “NOW I KNOW WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE, BUT IT’S NOT!”.
On the Xbox, unless I’m mistaken, I think you could only pick between DOA or Outlaw Volleyball, so either way you felt embarrassed booting it up.
So sadly I just had to stick to my nes copy of Kings of the Beach lol.
Honestly, my biggest shames in gaming aren’t games i’ve played but games i didn’t finish.
Like Demon’s Souls, which i’m playing these days.
