Spectrum Next and similar retro console remakes

Has anyone got onboard Spectrum Next or the similar relaunches for commodore and the like. I had avoided Netx v1 due to the previous disastrous crowdfunding for vega etc. Then v2 was delayed. But then having seen how cool they were and The Rubber Keyed Wonder The Rubber-Keyed Wonder (2024) - IMDb with a Q&A of directors etc I went in on v3. Not as long a delay as there has been previously but still waiting on it arriving.

There’s some awesome A5 fanzines/magazines being made - Crash, Next, Freeze ZX. Fusion Retro have a bunch of magazines new or relaunched The Rubber-Keyed Wonder (2024) - IMDb with a sub for 25/year to access everything digital - books, magazines, downloaded “coverdiscs” etc.

I have a V2 Next :) Nifty machine, very happy with it. Apparently for the V3 they’re adding in Sam Coupe support, and that’ll be available for the earlier versions as well; very excited, the Sam was my white whale as a kid, never actually got a chance to play around with it

yep - sam coupe, c64, QL and they are apparantly in discussions about amiga/atari. Hoping to make specnext be able to emulate loads of the older devices. There are some cores from third parties but they’re trying to keep things all legal and above board so getting permissions first.

I find it kinda funny that the Spectrum Next is so expensive when the Speccy was so cheap back in the day.

I do have the Spectrum Mini, I played a ton of Jack the Nipper on it.

Are we talking “minis”, maxis or the retro systems for programing?

Any and all of them :). I think they’re still cheaper inflation adjusted but like the +2 was £150 when it first came out, so twice that 40 years later isn’t that bad in comparison.

I have a bunch on the mini consoles, Amiga, Spectrum, C64, NES, SNES…

Doesn’t the Next have exclusive games, like a Lemming port by the Lemmings creator themselves?

Yes, it does have exclusives, including an apparently pretty great port of Lemmings; not entirely sure if it ever actually got released? The source is up and just needs the assets from the Windows version, I think? In Next mode, it’s capable of a lot more than the original Speccy’s were, more akin to the ST/Amiga; more colours, higher res, much better sound, etc etc.
