The response to the work I’ve put into this little website has been overwhelming. I just followed my intuition making it, but clearly I’ve hit upon something that resonates both with those who remember the old internet and those who’ve only heard the stories. Now that the garden is planted I want to tend to it as best I can.
This is a long term commitment for me. I am running all this on my own (along with my lovely mod team) and aim to keep it going as long as possible. How cool would it be if a decade from now many of you were still posting here?
That requires more work from me of course, but don’t worry about that, that’s not your problem. You can support this place simply by posting, sharing, inviting your friends, being good citizens, and naturally growing this community into whatever it ends up being.
And if you would like to support me more, help me cover hosting costs*, the time I’m spending on this, give me a little more room to implement more features and so on and so forth, these are the best ways to do it:
-
Subscribe to my Patreon. It will also give you bonuses such as access to an _exclusive category where I share behind the scenes stuff about anything I’m working on. That means this forum, my YouTube videos and streams, and some game development I’m slowly chipping away on. You also get public credit in anything I make and a fancy username color and avatar flair here on the forum.
-
Donate on Ko-Fi. It’s just one time donations, you’ll get nothing more than the satisfaction of helping and a public shoutout if it happens during a stream. For some people that’s enough. For me it means the world.
If you have ad blocking disabled for this domain (as you should) you’ll notice a custom (very temporary) banner ad pointing to the Patreon. It is my intention to rent this space out to users who want to show their support to the forum and get some publicity out of it. No other ad services (e.g. Google AdSense) will be used here.
I’m still figuring out the details about how to go about this in a more formal way (including officially incorporating my activities, something which I should have done long ago) so I’m not quite sure how to go about this yet. It would just be a flat rate for a set period or something. Shoot me a message if you’re interested in figuring it out with me. Bonus discount if you can make the ad look real early 2000s.
But that’s it, that’s what you can do if you feel like it. None of it is required, all of it is appreciated. Even if you’re just lurking and reading the conversations, I’m happy you’re here, and I hope to still see you around many years from now.
* Current hosting costs are about €6 a month, though I can get that closer to €4 a month if I can pre-pay for a 6 or 12 month commitment. The current server configuration should be sufficient for the forum for a while yet. The time I’m putting into maintaining and moderating the community is, of course, priceless, though it would be wonderful if I could responsibly dedicate a workday or two a month strictly on maintenance and features.
