CASTLEVANIA'S BACK BAYBEE!!!

The last time a new Castlevania game came out was in 2014, with Lords of Shadow 2 (well if you want to be pedantic technically it was the Haunted Castle Remake in 2024). From what I’ve heard I think the Lords of Shadow series is sort of a reboot and not canonically connected to the other games, and it’s unclear if it will be in any way tied to the series going forward, so in a way you could almost say there hasn’t been a new main series game since 2008/9.

I became a fan of this series around, I wanna say 2016-2017? I’m not like, a HUGE fan, but I love the gothic aesthetic and the heavy use of religious symbolism, something to do with me being raised Catholic and having religious trauma surrounding that, I guess. It’s weird to see a series I’ve technically been a fan of for years get a new game after so long. Though, if I’m being honest, I’m frankly not that into the Metroidvania games, I moreso like the classic linear games. Still, it’s awesome to see the series return and I’ll probably pick it up on launch to check it out.

Konami also posted this message, suggesting that the series is returning in full force. What do you think they’ll do next? I feel like a Castlevania Souls-like is a no-brainer. To me, that’s essentially the “correct” 3D Castlevania formula that they were never able to figure out.

Konami fully returning to making games that look interesting was not something I was counting on

It’s a most welcome surprise

This plus the MGS4 port announcement made my day.

I am excited, but the game does look a hint generic to me. I think I am probably a bit too negative tho

I don’t think so; I definitely understand the cynicism toward it. Haven’t been posting my thoughts in this thread about it because it’s meant to be positive, but “new Castlevania game, totally divorced from any of the developers who worked on it for decades” doesn’t interest me too much.

I mean Nintendo are the only devs who really keep that kind of continuity, as long as the devs have experience and understand what makes a Castlevania game good, it’s worth being excited about.

Kicking, screaming & begging for the physical edition to not be done by LRG.

Personally I like it a lot when smaller studios get the chance to revive a legacy IP that has been dormant.

I’ve seen a lot of cynicism from older fans, particularly in regards to the art style. I think it looks good but I do admit I think I’d like pixel art better. And in general, I can’t blame the cynics, considering Konami’s track record.
