I figure it’s time to show some love to one of the greatest formats of physical games, the big box PC game.
I picked up this trapezoidal treasure a few months back. I was lucky enough to find separate listings on eBay with incomplete contents and get all the original contents of The Dark Project US launch edition for a pretty good amount less than what people charge for a complete in box version.
When I was younger, my mom got me Tomb Raider (III?) as a Christmas present. She knew I’d know the box form so she put it in one of those flimsy, clothing boxes. 13 year old me picked it up, detected the clothing box and threw it aside as the last thing to open. Still makes me laugh a little, she was always the best at buying presents

i know its ultimately better for the environment and better for everyone without a lot of room for storage but i really do miss big box games. i don’t know if i have any left, at best i might have packed them flat and stored them in my parents’ house but i still don’t really have space to display them even if i got them back.
i’m looking forward to having a proper imsim big box display shelf when i can afford it. put thief and system shock and deus ex on there. maybe some other stuff
