Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Finale Discussion/Theories

Disclaimer: Spoilers for Hazbin Hotel Season 1 AND the currently airing Season 2 will be in this thread.

Given there hasn’t been one thread made about the series yet, I am going to do it myself. I thought I’d start by just recounting what I specifically like and then maybe some people could follow up and we can toss ideas around for the final two episodes next week. (19 November 7:00 PM for me)

In a non-spoiler sense, I think the season so far has been great at conveying itself in a fun, kinetic, stimulating manner with regards to the motivations of each character and their evolving bonds with eachother. As well as highlighting the “how” and “why” of a lot of the story, such as character backstories and the reasoning as to a lot of enmity.

This blend of new and “old” information has served to amplify my excitement for the proceedings of that final two episodes, that’s for sure.

My favourite song of the new season is “Gravity”, sung by Lute. I love the idea of an underling villain, responsible for many tragedies, dealing with the aftermath of their own personal tragedy. The way she processes her grief by lionizing his remnant presence, the violent revenge she wishes, and the anger that pours out of her lyrics is absolutely thundering. And the song itself, divorced of story context, is a great listen that departs the Broadway-style genre for a more angry, almost metal kind of genre.

The moment of the story that I really started to get interested is Vox’s manipulation of public opinion. I trust we’ve seen firsthand some real accounts, so the way it is portrayed as striking at Charlie’s weaknesses and genuinely challenging her ideals in a manner that isn’t just “power level bigger” like the final fight of Season 1 is a refreshing idea. And the way Vox and the other Vees just see it as a means to taking over heaven for further riches and slaves, compared to her outward displays of seeing the best in the worst of people, is a contrast that greatly emphasizes their differences in general.

So. I have seen the finale a couple days ago, in the form of episodes 7-8. I have seen these with a small watchparty. I actually have quite a bit to say.

First. Alastor breaking TWO deals in one move during the space before the climax. It was such a turnaround. Maybe not the most clever specifically if we are talking pure competence, but it was good pragmatic planning around Vox’s shortfall of humility that would’ve allowed him to pump the breaks and see it coming.

Second. The fights between Alastor’s overlords and the Vees. Absolutely wonderful to see how he and Vox contrast eachother in aesthetic and vibe, yet unintentionally mirror eachother. I want to think that Vox would have a case if he accused Alastor of relying on others for power, but of course that relies on info of who Sallie is and what they had. It’s such a good pain to watch them both be so flawed and fallible, and yet come to blows that rumble all of the Pride circle.

Personally, I am going to be one of the first to watch Season 3 once it hits. And I won’t forget about Helluva Boss in the meantime.

I hope season 3 doesn’t center on the Vees again so much, just for Angel Dust. Poor Angel Dust realizing you were the mole and being mind controlled has devastated him, but can Vox still control him in this state?

I didn’t realize Vivette was a mannequin until she fell apart!

Alastor is kinda scary… I have no idea what he wants, to he actually like Charlie, or does he see her as a plaything? Is he JEALOUS of Lucifer. I definitely want to see more of him in S3

I just don’t want the stakes for the finale to be so high.
