Fave Kaiju film?

I like Godzilla Vs. Biollante and The Shin films have been really solid!

Gotta be Shin Godzilla for me, though I admit I have soft spot for how goofy the Legendary Godzilla films have gotten.

I’ve only somewhat recently in life dove deeper into the Godzilla series. I loved the 98 American one when I was a kid. I know it’s not considered great. I loved Shin Godzilla. Got to see that and Minus One in theaters and both were great of course. I have a few vhs tapes that we have watched and they are all pretty cool. In particular I really liked Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. I’ll also say Godzilla vs. Destoroyah was cool to me but maybe bc it had 90s movie vibes!

i LOVE shin godzilla and i’ve heard that minus one is really good, though i have yet to actually watch it myself. so shin is definitely my favorite, but i also am really nostalgic for all the kaiju movies that appeared on MST3K. stuff like gamera.

Don’t let anyone keep you from enjoying 1998 Godzilla! (He’s referred to as Zilla now and in community and portrayed as a spunky little guy) also I liked Godzilla vs Destroyah too although Biollante edges it out

If you have never played it you should try Gamera 2000 on PS1! Its a Rail Shooter based on the Gamera franchise and is actually super fun!

Another vote for Shin Godzilla. The horror is government bureaucracy!

Godzilla vs. King Ghidora ‘91 is a classic! I love the Godzilla franchise though.

I must also join the Shin Godzilla train - I recently caught the theatrical US release. I enjoy stories where people collaborate to overcome an existential threat. SG is a very earnest and distilled movie.

If Pacific Rim counts, I also have a big soft spot for it (and all del Toro movies).

The first Godzilla film I ever saw was Godzilla vs King Ghidorah. The one with time travel and androids and laser guns. It can never not be my favourite because it’s too damned stupid

Probably somewhere between Shin Godzilla and Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris, I love the stylistic swings and sincerity of Gamera 3 and where that as a story goes but I also adore the pace and political bite of Shin Godzilla a lot.

How do people feel about Godzilla Minus One? It’s fantastic in spite of some dubious politics, but I still enjoy the eldritch horror of a big monster from the sea meets the eldritch horror of bureaucracy of Shin more.

It was a really good movie honestly. Really good premise even if capturing that time has a lot of pitfalls to fall in or straight up shit that creators may want to move forward.

I won’t lie it definitely made me emotional!

Shin and Minus One, the first MechaGodzilla movie, Godzilla 2014 and King of the Monsters, the Gamera trilogy and of course, the og Godzilla.

Not a single film, but I own the entire Gamera reboot trilogy of the 90s and it is truly some fantastic stuff, I definitely think it beats out the 90s Godzilla stuff.

Also a shoutout to the fantastic Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack which was helmed by the same director as the Gamera trilogy.

I don’t have favorites but I have movies of note?

Shin Godzilla for the super goofy baby-to-adult sequences, I loved them to bits, SO much fun

Pacific Rim for best attempt at making anime live action, I’m gonna say they succeeded but in my mind the franchise stopped after movie one. Wow it would be cool to have a sequel TOO BAD THEY NEVER MADE ONE

Might be controversial but I didn’t find a lot of enjoyment in the newest western installations of the godzilla/kong franchise since Skull Island so when I put on Godzilla x Kong the New Empire I wasn’t expecting ANYTHING. However I found myself having a pretty good time with it! It was just a cool adventure movie! I think it got dunked on so hard partly because it came out at a very similar time to Godzilla Minus One which was good and felt more like a godzilla movie while New Empire is more spectacle. I appreciate good spectacle though!
