I thought of this image multiples times today
It doesn’t look so pale in person.
We made a very chocolaty Cake for my partners sisters birthday. It has three layers separated by a chocolate ganache and a chocolate cream/mascarpone coating. I put orange dark chocolate in the cake and coating and it gives the cake a little bit more character. Quite happy with it as I’m not much of a baker.
My approach to baking is similar to cooking, I’m experimenting a lot, doesn’t always work out.
Got to say this looks amazing! Never really explored baking as I’ve lived alone for a long time and definitely would not benefit from having more cake about the flat but this is getting me inspired - I guess no harm in sharing with colleagues!
I fancied something more saucy tonight so I’m back on the stainless steel pan:
God I love this pan too, I’m spoiled for choice between this and the new wok! Slightly overdid the chicken here, but the sauce was so rich that I’m going to give myself a pass lol
I haven’t had risotto in ages that speaks to me right now
Take away fried noodles with duck. I always get it at the same place, just have to postseason it at home, cause it’s so bland.
The vegetables look perfect
Made a creamy cheese sauce with leftovers (mascarpone, pecorino, cream). Since my partner doesn’t like to bite on onions and garlic I used basically only powders to season. But I roasted them in the pan and it actually gave it a nutty taste.
My phone camera is ass, but I like how the sauce looks like it was filmed in the 80s. So dreamy
May I present to you, the humble pastechi. A classic Aruban pastry. Just flour, some shortening, a little bit of salt and sugar, and as much cheese and/or ham as you can stuff into them, fried in a little bit of oil.
These were hand-made my mother and will mostly be mouth-ate by me. This is what heaven looks like.
Oh, thats very interesting
In Brasil we have “pastel”, wich is basically this. Wonder if pastechi is the origin behind it
I had some toast with brown bread and it just hit different.
through toasting, all bread becomes brown bread ![]()
Birthday weekend, so I bought myself a sampler cheesecake. Really rich stuff, very satisfied with it.
Also used my cheat day to get some chili cheese fries and a italian sausage and pepperoni calzone from a local pizza place. I had to have a kidney removed so I have to watch my sodium, but since it was my birthday weekend, I decided fuck it and go a bit further than usual for a cheat day.
Yumaste!
Hey sorry haven’t been so active recently. I went on a vacation to Scotland and was really busy afterwards. But I thought I’d do a culinary best of for the last couple weeks. So..
I had my first ever Scottish breakfast in Edinburgh. It was quite good, but what surprised me most was how much I liked the black pudding. Bought a pack afterwards and had it for almost every breakfast.
We found a bunch of chanterelles on our first hiking trip in Scotland. They’re my partners favourite mushroom. We collected so many, we even had to start ignoring them after we had enough to make a feast. Sadly I don’t like mushrooms yet. My partner made a creamy sauce with tagliatelle with it.
One of the best things about hiking is the lunch break, I always try to bring something special. Here is a simpler version of a Scottish breakfast. The egg was still creamy.
I try to get into soups now and the best time for it is probably fall. So I made a creamy soup with butternut squash, potatos, carrots and onions. It was perfect after we came home on a rainy day.
Where I live something very similar to hashbrowns are a big thing, called Reevkoche. I tried to make some with carrots and a zucchini, although I bought not enough and it was mostly potato anyway. Still tasted delicious with the Feta/cottage cheese dip I made and the chicken I bought from a chicken truck on my way home from work.
My partner made Knödel (bavarian dumplings (she is bavarian)) with brown sauce and honey glazed carrots. It was pretty good.
Today I made an onion/cheddar sauce (it’s sooo good) and ate it with lamb filet and potato chips.
Soorry for the long post!!
Honestly this all looks incredible, I just ate but I’m already hungry again now
And yeah, black pudding is great!
